This control strip allows you to get and set info about your files, very easily. It works with single item and also with multiple item selection. Now, youﾕll manage your files as easily than in your deepest dreamsﾉ
This is shareware!
That is, if you use it regularly, you must register.
The shareware fee is $15 per single user, the site licence is $300 (that is, 20 users) and covers all locations for your organization within a 160 km (100 miles) radius of you site, and the world-wide site licence is $1200 and covers all site of your organization on the earth and the sun.
Registering is very easy (thanks to Kagi). Run the ﾒRegisterﾓ program that were shipped with Get Item Info Strip, enter your name, email address (required) and the numbers of single user, site or world-wide licences you desire. Save or Copy to the clipboard the data and send the data and payment to Kagi.
If you are paying with Credit Card or First Virtual, you can email or fax the
data to Kagi. Their email address is <sales@kagi.com> and their fax number
is +1 510 652-6589. You can either Copy the data from Register and paste
into the body of an email message or you can Save the
data to a file and you can attach that file to an email message. There
is no need to compress the data file, it's already pretty small. If you
have a fax modem, just Print the data to the Kagi fax number.
Payments sent via email are processed within 3 to 4 days. You will
receive an email acknowledgement when it is processed. Payments sent via
fax take up to 10 days and if you provide a correct internet email
address you will receive an email acknowledgement.
If you are paying with Cash or USD Check you should print the data using
the Register application and send it to the address shown on the form,
which is:

You can pay with a wide variety of cash from different countries but at
present if you pay via check, it must be a check drawn in US Dollars.
Kagi cannot accept checks in other currencies, the conversion rate for
non-USD checks is around USD 15 per check and that is just not
practical.
If you have a purchasing department, you can enter all the data into the
Register program and then select ﾒInvoiceﾓ as your payment method. Print
three copies of the form and send it to your accounts payable people.
You might want to highlight the line that mentions that they must
include a copy of the form with their payment.
Kagi can not invoice your company, you need to act on my behalf and
generate the invoice and handle all the paperwork on your end.
Please do not fax or email payment forms that indicate Cash, Check or
Invoice as the payment method. As far as we know, there is still no
technology to transfer physical objects via fax or email and without the
payment, the form cannot be processed.
Payments send via postal mail take time to reach Kagi and then up to 10
days for processing. Again, if you include a correct email address, you
will hear from Kagi when the form is processed.
How to install ?
To install this control strip, simply put it into the folder "Controls Strip Modules" of your System folder and restart.
You'll see a new icon in your control strip, symbolized by a file :

Quick start
Now, select one file or folder (or more !) and click the GII icon. A menu like this one will appear :

Letﾕs look it.
The first item, ﾒNameﾓ, displays the name of the selected item (or ﾇmultiple selectionﾈ if more than one item are selected).
The second and the third display the date where the item was created and last modified. If these dates are different within the selection, ﾒdifferent within selectionﾓ is displayed instead.
The next items (ﾒHas bundleﾓ, ﾒInvisibleﾓ... to ﾒFile lockedﾓ) are the Finder Flags (theyﾕre called so by Apple) associated with the file. A bullet ﾔ･ﾕ indicates that every items in the selection got the flag, whereas a line ﾔ-ﾕ indicates that only some items in the selection got the flag.
The two next items ﾒResources lockedﾓ and ﾒCompacts RMap On Updateﾓ are the resources flags. Note : a file without a resource fork does not own resource flags.
The last two items are the type and the creator of the selection, or ﾒdifferent within selectionﾓ if theyﾓre different in the current selection.
How to modifiy a Finder flag or a resource flag?
To modify a Finder flag or a resource flag, youﾕve just to select it in the menu. Note that the changes applies to the entire selection :-)
If you choose a flag without a mark or with a line ﾔ-ﾕ, the flag is set for all items in the selection.
If you choose a flag with a bullet ﾔ･ﾕ, the flag is unset for all items in the selection.
How to modify the dates, the type, the creator or the name of a file using GII?
Very simple. Just select the item you want to modify. The GII dialog will appear, showing more settings on screen. This dialog is splitted within 5 panes, the first is used to specify the name and the name format (Macintosh or DOS), the second is used to specify the type and creator, the third is used to specify the creation and modification date, the fourth is used to specify the Finder flags and the last is used to specify resources flags.

The ﾒNameﾓ pane
This pane is used to set the name of the selected file and its format.

The ﾒLockedﾓ checkbox specify the file name is locked and cannot be modified in the Finder.
The ﾒNameﾓ field allows you to specify the name of the file, itﾕs only available if only one file is selected.
The ﾒFormatﾓ radio buttons allows you to set up the format. For exemple, if you choose DOS, the name will be truncated to a standard DOS 8+3 filename.
The ﾒType and creatorﾓ pane

This pane allows you to set the type and the creator of the files in the selection. No items are available if current selection contains only folders.
Note the three popup menus which ease the process: by choosing a type, creator or format in the menu, you may easily set the ﾒTypeﾓ and ﾒCreatorﾓ field without knowing their values.
The ﾒDateﾓ pane

This pane allows you to set the Creation and Modification date associated to each item by MacOS.
The ﾒSet to nowﾓ buttons allows you to easily set the creation or the modification date to current date and time, the ﾒSet both to nowﾓ allows you to set the modification and the creation date to current date and time and the ﾒCopy to creation dateﾓ and ﾒCopy to modification dateﾓ allows you to transfer the date and time from creation to modification or the opposite.
The ﾒFinder flagsﾓ pane

This pane allows you to set the Finder flags. Note that, to access this pane, you must choose, for example, a date in the menu, and then switch to this pane. If you select a Finder flag in the menu, this flag will not be shown, the choosen flag will be toggled instead.
The ﾒResources flagsﾓ pane
ﾊ
Like the ﾒFinder flagsﾓ pane, to show this pane, you must first ask GII to display another (for example, the ﾒDatesﾓ pane) then switch to this pane.
The first checkbox, ﾒHas resource forkﾓ, allows you to create or remove the resource fork of the files in the selection.
WARNING: itﾕs very dangerous to remove the resource fork of a file. In many case, the file will be corrupted and you wonﾕt be able to use it anymore. Be aware of the risks before to uncheck ﾒHas resource forkﾓ.
The last three checkboxes are resources flags, that is, they are only available when a resource fork is present.
The ﾒResources lockedﾓ flags allows you to lock the resource fork. No one will be able to add or modify a resource until you choose to uncheck this box.
The ﾒCompacts map on update or closeﾓ may be used to ask the Resource Manager to optimize the resource fork (by removing every unneeded space) before closing or updating it. In most cases, you wonﾕt need to modify this setting.
The ﾒMap has been modifiedﾓ is mostly present for fun. Itﾕs cleared each time you open or close a file :)
Note for hackers
There is, for now, no way to modify the popup menus in the ﾒType and creatorﾓ pane.
I will probably add it in following versions. If you need to modify the menu, open [a copy] of Get Item Info Strip and look for ﾔSTR#ﾕ resources. The 7 last resources list the type/creator and the associated name. Look the resource fork, youﾕll understand very easily.
Planned in the future
･ Please donﾕt ask to include anywhere a standard Open file dialog. Since the Control Strip Manager wonﾕt allow it to meﾉ Iﾕll have to find another way to do it. I may use floating windows instead than modal ones butﾉ
